A chocolate dinner & my favorite dessert restaurant

If you had to choose between eating a nutella filled crepe or a melted chocolate filled crêpe, which one would you prefer to eat???  If chocolate is your first choice then you are my kind of person!

No matter where I am located (traveling or at home), I am always on the lookout for amazing dessert places.  Chocolate is almost always my preference but not your taste like chocolate but is only cocoa powder or taste like chocolate but is a water based chocolate syrup wannabe dessert.  I like the real deal, the dark chocolate, slightly bitter taste mixed with nuts or fruits, mmmmm!

When February rolls around, I tend to want chocolate even more.  Ever since moving to Montreal over a decade ago, Juliette et Chocolat has become my go-to place for dessert cravings and light lunches.  You basically go there to eat chocolate for brunch, lunch or dinner.  I am happy to say that I’ve probably tried almost everything on the menu.  So naturally, I planned on going with my little family closer to Valentine’s day to get my monthly dosage of chocolate, hihi…

A Canadian Valentine’s Day with Fun, Loving Items

Do you enjoy Valentine’s Day?

When I started writing this post, I thought of giving you gift ideas for Valentine’s Day.  However, I soon realized that it would make it more special to find one of a kind, small businesses that have unique and fun or lovely and useful products, even better, why not start by focusing on Canadian products.  I truly enjoy and happily spend hours on end searching for new products and brands that are interesting and lovely to own.

Healthy Vegan Chocolate Mousse

This is by far the easiest, healthy and oh so good vegan chocolate mousse recipe.

I tried this recipe for the first time years ago when I lived with my brother who was on a raw diet.  Being the chocolate lover that I am, I did not want to give up eating any desserts, let alone chocolate.  So when I  ate this raw chocolate mousse, I wanted more.  I think that I probably made this dessert as a meal replacement a few times since it was that good, hahaha!

Naturally, when I thought of recipes for this Valentine’s Day I had to share it with you.

Oh So Good… Enchiladas

Happy New Year!

One thing I enjoy cooking during the winter months is comfort food. However, I always gravitate towards more healthy, veggie packed recipes.  Today’s Oh So Good recipe has become a favorite that my partner always appreciates.

So if your looking for a very flavorful, veggie packed or even vegan option, this recipe can be easily modified to your taste.

Soft Vegan Pumpkin Cookies

When it comes to desserts most of us can’t say no, especially when it comes to a warm home baked cookie!  I have never been shy to ask for more and to admit that I love having a dessert after any meal…even sometimes for breakfast, haha!  However, with that being said, in order to be able to eat deserts more often, I always try to use healthier and more nutritions ingredients.

We all know someone that is either vegetarian, gluten free, vegan, lactose intolerant, or on another diet.

Everyone wants to have a healthier life or due to health reasons has a restricted diet. For me eating a lot of vegan desserts is one way of having the best of both worlds…desserts and being healthy!

Traveling to Tunisia: Tozeur, the Mountain Oasis & Chebika

One of the things that Kais was very adament in showing me was the South of Tunisia, more specifically a part of their desert.  My only part was “yes” or “no” when he would ask me: “would you like to visit this or this?”  However, I kept having this feeling that maybe it would not be a great idea going knowing that I was pregnant.  After all, 38-40 degrees weather, honestly, this girl from the northern part of Canada was not great in handling very hot destinations….especially pregnant.  However, in the end I gave in to my curiosity and we drove 6 hours South of Sousse to the city of Tozeur.

What is interesting about Tunisia is you have different landscapes, while the North is colder and the East Coast borders the Sea, the South is where the desert lies.

Traveling to Tunisia: Monastir

Before meeting my partner Kais, whom is originally from Tunisia, I had never heard, let alone showed any interest in visiting this country.  Let’s be honest, it isn’t the most advertised country.  So for the next few blog posts, I wanted to let you discover through my photos more of this beautiful country.

Let me just start by saying that if you do not know anyone in Tunisia that can be your tour guide through the city or if you do not speak the language which is arabic (a tunisian dialect), then I would definitely recommend exploring this country with organized tours.  Thankfully, I had Kais who had family and friends giving us recommendations and renting a car made it incredibly easier for us to visit on our own.

Tunisia has little gems located throughout the country for tourist to discover it’s beauty.

Being Grateful & Surprise Announcement!

Happy Thankgiving weekend!

If you have been following me on Instagram (@christiane.begin) then you know that I visited Tunisia recently with my little family.  As my partner is originally from there, we visited his relatives as well as some tourist spots.  I am currently prepping those posts and selecting from the many pictures we took so stay tuned!

Being Grateful

Thanksgiving has always been an important weekend in my family.  We had our extended family and some close friends on Sundays to celebrate and eat A LOT of homemade food.  We celebrated the end of the farming season in my town (I grew up on a farm) while being together enjoying 5 course meals my mom usually prepared which was one of my favorite part of getting together.  Mmmmm!  Now that I have been living at the other end of the country, I don’t get to share these special moments with my family.  On the other hand, I have my little family that is growing and I try to incorporate those traditions into my cooking and my baking.  I enjoy the Fall feeling and coziness it brings with warmer clothing and hot beverages.  Don’t you just LOVE the Fall flavors such as pumpkin, cinnamon, apple, cranberry sauce….?!

Carrot Chickpea Soup

One of the quickest meal you can make is soup.  What I enjoy about it is that even if you haven’t been grocery shopping all week, you can usually find a carrot somewhere in the fridge maybe even one that is less than pretty.  Although I tend to eat a lot of soups as a comfort meal during colder months, whenever I feel like eating a lighter lunch, this is often the way to go.

A Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea

Mother’s Day is a time to show our appreciation and to celebrate our mother or mother figures in our lives.  While I don’t get a chance to see my mother that often since she lives across the country, I enjoy getting together with other mom’s that are part of my life here in Montreal.  While my son is to young to realize what this day signifies, now that I am a mother myself, I find it more meaningful  and important to be celebrating this day.

What to do on Mother’s Day?

This year I celebrated Mother’s Day with an afternoon tea at my cousin’s place.  Being the amazing hostess she is, I knew that I would have to share this special day with all of you.

Quick & Easy Recipe : Healthy Beet Dip

Hello!!

I am very happy to be sharing with you some oh so good recipes on the blog.

Have you ever eaten something and said “mmmm! I should really get the recipe for this ____.”, well this is has happened to me MANY times! I love to try new recipes and have have made some over the years that have been quite delicious and share worthy.  This is what inspires me to share with you some of my favorite finds that you may cook\bake for your next meal. You will notice that most of these recipes are quite easy as unfortunately, we don’t always take the time to make 5 course meals.

So before you skip over this recipe as beets do not appeal to everyone and yes I am aware, let me start by saying I have tried this recipe with carrots instead of beets and it is also delicious!  Nevertheless, this is a recipe I make over and over again as it is simple and very nutritious.
